  • Overview

    As part of the human resources team, the human resources assistant will report to the Associate Director, Washington Human Resources. The assistant will provide administrative support to the department’s functions including, organizational development, training, employee activities, recruitment, the volunteer intern program, employee records management, and reception coverage. This is an opportunity for an organized, quick learner who is looking to begin their career in human resources.

    The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

    • Providing administrative support to the Associate Director as well as the department including, scheduling and coordinating meetings and interviews, tracking staff arrivals and departures, updating staff records, assisting with the performance appraisal process, managing social media accounts, and departmental financial support
    • Coordinating logistics and participating in employee activities, including health and wellness programs, brown bag lunches, professional development events, orientation and onboarding, and all staff meetings
    • Assisting with the coordination and tracking of new hire onboarding and orientation processes, exit interviews, and survey results from employee activities   
    • Supporting recruitment efforts for internship and full-time positions by posting position announcements, responding to a large volume of resumes, conducting phone interviews and reference checks, attending career fairs, and handling other inquiries, as needed
    • Providing support for the Washington volunteer internship program in coordination with the Associate Director, Talent Acquisition and Staff Development
    • Serving as a substitute in reception services which includes greeting visitors and speakers, answering incoming calls
    • Providing support for all aspects of human resources and partnering with the Associate Director on other priorities and projects, as needed


    • Bachelor’s degree in related field with high academic achievement
    • One year related human resources administrative and/or internship experience. Customer service experience strongly preferred
    • Proven ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment. Experience supporting senior staff members preferred
    • Extremely flexible, organized, and detail oriented, with strong follow-through skills
    • Excellent judgment, with a friendly yet professional demeanor
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong editing and proofreading skills a plus
    • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with HRIS and ADP preferred
    • Interest in U.S. foreign policy a plus
    • Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and late evenings
