Overview

The Online Writer Editor, Election 2020, will be a part-time (18 hours per week) remote position through January 2020. CFR.org is the Council’s award-winning website that publishes a mix of digital resources focused on U.S. foreign policy and international affairs, including backgrounders, reports, newsletters, videos, podcasts, and interactives. The Digital Editorial team collaborates closely with CFR’s think tank, featuring regular insights and analysis from more than seventy fellows.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

• Work with CFR.org Deputy Editor to provide coverage related to the 2020 presidential campaign
• Compose text for foreign policy issue pages and candidate pages
• Monitor candidates’ statements, campaign materials, policy proposals, and debates, and file ongoing updates to candidate positions
• Track relevant international developments as they relate to the campaign
• Liaise with campaign staff or candidate representatives as necessary
• Work with CFR think tank staff as necessary
• Contribute background to video, podcast, and other multimedia coverage as necessary

Qualifications

• Degree in related field
• Demonstrated knowledge and interest in current U.S. foreign policy issues as well as presidential elections
• Prior related experience in journalism and writing for a daily news publication, preferably online
• Ability to write and process information under deadlines
• Strong writing, reporting, editing, and proofreading skills
• Strong social media skills
