All who are selected to participate in CFR’s Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program receive training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs as well as skills training in writing, research, program planning, and much more.

The intern will conduct in-depth primary and secondary source research in English and Korean and gain experience using a broad range of sources and databases. The intern will cultivate a nuanced understanding of Korean politics and gain professional skills as they interact with various guests, including experts. The intern will also have the opportunity to contribute to CFR’s Asia Unbound blog. 

CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.

• Conduct research as requested by the research associate and/or fellow on a variety of topics
• Produce a monthly Korea Update newsletter draft 
• Assist with writing and editing content, including research memos and briefs, blog posts, book chapters, and other publications, as needed
• Perform data collection and analysis on relevant topics
• Assist in logistical support for meetings, including but not limited to preparing distribution materials, helping with guest check-in, and guiding visitors during roundtables and other departmental events, under the supervisor’s direct supervision
• Track daily news reports relevant for the department
• Perform translation of news, articles, and research materials from Korean to English and from English to Korean, as needed

• Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in a related field with high academic achievement 
• Demonstrated academic work (specifically research papers) on Korea 
• Strong research abilities and research experience in a professional, internship, or academic setting is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
• Excellent attention to detail and follow through 
• Willingness to learn  
• Strong organizational skills 
• Full-professional proficiency (fluency) in Korean is required
