Foreign Affairs is the leading magazine in the field of U.S. foreign policy and international affairs. Reporting to the Editor and the Executive Editors, the Editorial Operations Manager will be responsible for making the office run smoothly and offering administrative support.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Managing the editorial budget and budgetary planning
  • Approving and processing expenses
  • Handling all contracts with contributors and freelancers
  • Coordinating and managing board meetings
  • Ensuring editorial and business staff have all necessary hardware, software, and supplies
  • Organizing staff functions and trainings
  • Handling staff requests for meeting/event rooms at CFR
  • Greeting visitors and visiting delegations
  • Supporting on-site Foreign Affairs Live events 
  • Coordinating staff travel
  • Acting as a liaison between Foreign Affairs and other CFR departments


  • At least 4 years of experience in running a small or medium-sized office
  • Experience creating and maintaining operating budgets and handling contracts
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent organizational and database skills
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Discretion, flexibility, and initiative
