Global Communications and Media Relations


The Social Media and Digital Marketing Associate is responsible for ensuring high quality execution of social media efforts. This individual will write posts for and report on CFR's social media channels in conjunction with the Digital Marketing team, focusing on ways to engage and expand audiences with content on CFR, its experts, and its products and initiatives.

We are looking for a skilled and creative individual who is able to distill complex foreign policy content into concise posts for a variety of audiences, write engaging social content, and develop analytics-based insights to inform future work. This position works within the Digital Marketing team and will also assist on social media and advertising strategy and marketing campaigns.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting the Digital Marketing team with day-to-day management of social media platforms, including helping with writing, posting, and scheduling relevant and timely content to CFR’s institutional Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and ensuring consistent tone and branding.
  • Supporting the Deputy Director, Social Media and Digital Marketing, in the development of CFR’s social media strategy and helping to encourage best practices across the organization’s social media accounts.
  • Collaborating with the Editorial, Multimedia, Product and Design teams, and an external design firm to create and adapt content for social media audiences, including video and data visualizations.
  • Regularly measuring and reporting on the performance of CFR’s social media.
  • Assisting with CFR’s advertising efforts as needed.
  • Trend-spotting and identifying new and efficient platforms for marketing CFR, its fellows, and/or its various products and initiatives.
  • As-needed support for ads, email and media relations.
  • Other departmental duties as assigned.


  • One year of experience in marketing, social media management, advertising, audience development, brand strategy, or related role with experience contributing to an institutional social media presence.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, international relations, or related field with high academic achievement
  • Demonstrated interest in current U.S. foreign policy and international affairs issues.
  • An “eye” for digital design, basic experience with Adobe Photoshop is a plus.
  • Experience analyzing web, advertising, and/or social media analytics (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Facebook Analytics, etc.) to make decisions.
  • Outstanding written, visual, and oral communications skills, especially for writing compelling social media copy and advertising copy and building presentations.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and proactively in a fast-paced team environment. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience and familiarity with media and online news preferred.
