Overview

As part of the Human Resources team, the associate director will be a generalist, with a focus on recruitment, diversity and inclusion, performance management, employee relations, training, and employee events. The Associate Director will be a main point of contact for Human Resources in the Washington D.C. office. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in working on human resources competencies, in a fast paced, collegial and intellectually engaging nonprofit work environment. The Associate Director will work closely with the Director of Human Resources.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Acting as a Human Resources contact for the Washington D.C. employee base.
  • Overseeing full cycle recruitment process for a wide range of positions, including working directly with hiring managers, identifying recruitment sources, posting positions, interviewing candidates, conducting reference/background checks, and making offers.
  • Working closely with CFR staff on diversity and inclusion efforts, including developing talent pipelines, coordinating CFR’s employee resource groups, and representing CFR at external diversity events, such as job fairs.
  • Coordinating the performance management process; including conducting coaching sessions with employees with a goal of professional development and performance improvement.
  • Identifying professional development and performance improvement courses in our online learning management system.
  • Developing, implementing, and executing a wide array of training and staff events. Staff events include a comprehensive health and wellness program, training sessions at every level from interns through senior management, and foreign policy-related staff events.
  • Project management for various HR and institutional priorities.
  • Supervising the interdepartmental assistant and coordinating HR activities for the Washington office.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 or more years related human resources generalist experience in a high profile organization, including significant recruitment and supervisory experience
  • Degree in a related field with high academic achievement; PHR or SPHR certification is a plus
  • Strong employee relations skills and experience, including coaching and consultative skills
  • Strong project-management experience, including the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with managing diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Outstanding writing skills as well as public speaking skills
  • Ability to work well independently, in addition to being a proactive and collaborative member of a team
  • Results-oriented with a flexible and positive attitude, and the highest level of judgment and discretion
  • Proficiency with HRIS databases, ADP, learning management systems, applicant tracking software, advanced Excel, and MS Office products
  • Interest in international relations preferred
  • Ability to travel periodically
