The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) creates innovative educational resources that seek to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and perspective—the global literacy—required to understand the forces, ideas, and institutions that shape today’s world. These resources include World101, a growing library of multimedia primers that explain the fundamentals of international relations and U.S. foreign policy; Model Diplomacy, a multimedia simulation program that invites students to play the role of members of the National Security Council and UN Security Council; and Convene the Council, an educational video game developed in collaboration with iCivics to teach students as young as twelve how foreign policy is made. Each product comes with companion teaching resources and activities appropriate for a specific target audience, be it high school teachers, college professors, and/or their students.


Working under the supervision of the Director, Marketing, the Manager, Marketing Communications will work closely with content and teaching and learning teams to create timely and informative content that is engaging, easy to read, and benefits-oriented (describes what CFR Education products do and how they can be effectively used in classrooms).

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Working closely with the Director, Marketing, content, and teaching and learning teams to create timely and informative content that is engaging, easy to read, and benefits-oriented (describes what CFR Education products do and how they can be effectively used in classrooms).
  • Revamping all email campaigns including:
    • Overseeing drip campaigns when name is captured.
    • Providing ongoing newsletter to current users/names already in database based on what content a user has accessed or expressed interest in.
    • Providing additional and news-based content.
  • Writing and maintaining currency of all copy for marketing materials and channels: email newsletters, web copy, social media, white papers, and flyers.
  • Creating CFR Education Twitter and Facebook accounts.
  • Helping to create internal positioning guide and buyer personas.
  • Working closely with Vice President, Content Director, and Director, Teaching & Learning on leadership thought pieces.
  • Working closely with the Teaching and Learning and Content teams to set pipeline of topics to cover on a month-to-month basis.


  • 4+ years’ experience in marketing communications, PR, copy editing, and/or writing marketing materials.

  • Experience in educational publishing, edtech, teaching, or in a related high school or higher education environment.

  • Superb written and oral communication skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with high academic credentials. Bachelor’s degree in marketing or PR a plus.

  • Superior writing, editing, proofreading, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to interact with editors, experts, and senior management.

  • Experience with digital publishing and editorial workflows.

  • Flexible, positive, team-oriented attitude.

  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team, balancing multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
