Founded in 1922, Foreign Affairs is the preeminent publication on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. It is published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which is a leading independent, nonprofit membership organization and nonpartisan center dedicated to producing and disseminating foreign policy ideas.

 

The Business Development and Licensing Manager will support all magazine content licensing and partnership activities for Foreign Affairs. This is an excellent opportunity to create, execute, and monitor business strategies with impactful financial results. As part of a team, reporting to the Circulation Operations Director, you will maintain and expand our content partnerships in multiple channels including audio, international editions, aggregator services, and other print publications. You will also play a role in building and maintaining a strategy for our institutional subscription business.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop and maintain content licensing partnerships in order to build consistent third-party revenue streams
  • Research industry trends and identify licensing opportunities that fit the Foreign Affairs brand and goals
  • Analyze the financial impact of all partnerships and provide recommendations to sustain profitability
  • Provide support in the contract negotiation and amendment process 
  • Track copyrights of Foreign Affairs articles and books for redistribution
  • Build prospect lists and develop outreach strategies for institutional subscriptions
  • Manage communication and support across all license relationships

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with high academic achievement
  • At least 3 years of business development, marketing, finance, or related experience
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Results-oriented self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including clear and effective written communication

Pay Range

$60,000 to $70,000 per year

Pay commensurate with experience and education
