Overview

The Director of Event and Audio Visual Operations will oversee event activity and audio visual operations at a state-of-the-art event and conference space in New York and Washington, D.C. Events range from conferences to social events and film shoots. The position reports to the Managing Director of Facility, Event, and Security Operations. This position will be based onsite.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Overseeing and executing the management and production of over 200 high-end, multi-format events a year, from in-person to hybrid and virtual. 
  • Overseeing and executing audio visual management and production.
  • Supervising and motivating a team of twenty+ staff, ranging from event managers to audio-visual technicians.
  • Developing and executing sales strategies to achieve revenue goals for events that rent out the public space, including social, corporate, and film and photo shoots.
  • Working closely with department heads and internal event leads to collaborate on producing the highest quality events that meet their business needs.
  • Working with rental clients to ensure that events are planned based on their requirements.
  • Overseeing aesthetics and upgrades of all public spaces.
  • Working closely with the public space maintenance and building engineering teams to ensure event and public spaces are well-maintained and in showroom state.
  • Working with the purchasing and legal departments on preparing and negotiating contracts for event and public space-related projects and vendors.
  • Managing the work of multiple vendors, including caterers, florists, external audio-visual services, and photographers.
  • Developing and managing revenue and operating budgets.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of seven years of related experience managing and executing a wide range of events, including menu development, room setup, and timeline development, preferably at a similar organization, major cultural institution, or high-end hospitality venue.
  • A degree in hospitality management or related area strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to motivate and manage a large staff across multiple locations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external contacts, rental clients, and vendors.
  • High level of familiarity with event and audio-visual creation, planning, and production.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment, while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Proficiency in technology including event management and scheduling software, such as Eventbrite, Microsoft CRM, and videoconferencing platforms, such as Zoom, WebEx and GlobalMeet.
  • Willingness to travel to the Washington office as needed and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including periodically in evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays; as well as during inclement weather.
  • Excellent sales and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification strongly preferred.

Pay Range

$140,000 to $170,000 per year

Pay commensurate with experience and education
