Overview

CFR.org is the Council on Foreign Relations’ award-winning website and a leading source of foreign policy analysis. It publishes a mix of resources including podcasts, videos, In Brief and Backgrounder articles, blog posts by CFR fellows, on the record event footage, interactive timelines, and the Daily News Brief newsletter. The Associate Producer role resides within the CFR Digital Content team, which collaborates closely with fellows in CFR’s think tank. The Podcast team produces all podcast and audio products for CFR.org, including but not limited to The President’s Inbox, The World Next Week, The Foreign Affairs Interview, and Why It Matters. The Associate Producer reports to the Director of Podcasting. This position is based in CFR’s New York office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Episode story-building and scripting.
  • Edit and publish weekly and biweekly podcasts.
  • Work with the AV team to record interviews both in and out of CFR studios and to implement best recording practices.
  • Oversee setup and provide oversight for remote recordings and interviews without the assistance of AV, directing guests to get the best sound quality.
  • Travel to record on-site as needed.
  • Manage show production schedules, conduct subject research, oversee scheduling, and communicate with guests.
  • Assist in developing and producing future podcasts and audio products for the Council.
  • Work with interns and help onboard new staff.
  • Work across departments to field requests and develop pitches.
  • Post podcast episodes to the CMS, YouTube and Podbean.

Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of related experience.
  • Skilled in recording audio.
  • Proficient in Pro Tools, with experience editing multitrack sessions and non-linear media. Experience cleaning up audio.
  • Experience in scripting for podcasts.
  • Experience in audio production or multimedia journalism with a strong interest in international relations.
  • BA degree in Media Production, Journalism, Communications or a related field, with high academic credentials.
  • Experience working with transcription. Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong writing, editing, and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player, with colleagues in two cities – New York and Washington, DC. 
  • Ability to multitask and work flexible hours (if necessary).

Pay Range

$60,000 to $75,000 per year

Pay commensurate with experience and education
