Founded in 1922, Foreign Affairs is the preeminent publication on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. It is published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which is a leading independent, nonprofit membership organization and nonpartisan center dedicated to producing and disseminating foreign policy ideas.

 

Foreign Affairs is looking for a deputy editor to join our editorial team. This position is located in New York on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite. CFR’s hybrid schedule is subject to change.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • As part of the editorial leadership, participate in planning coverage, crafting editorial strategy, carrying out quality control, and designing and maintaining systems and schedules
  • Commission, review, and edit articles and other content
  • Help manage the editorial staff

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Significant editing experience

  • Experience with digital publishing

  • Management experience

  • Ability to juggle a wide range of tasks on short deadlines and work well as part of a team

  • Strong understanding of foreign policy and international affairs

 

Pay Range

$130,000 to $150,000

Pay commensurate with experience and education
