CFR Outreach works to raise the profile of CFR and develop relationships with communities across the United States. Current initiatives focus on college and university students, educators, and administrators; state and local officials; local journalists; and congregational leaders and representatives of faith-based organizations.

Under the direction of the State and Local Officials Initiative lead (assistant director) and the vice president and director of the National Program and Outreach department, the program coordinator supports the work of the State and Local Officials Initiative, which builds relationships and provides programming, forums for discussion and the sharing of best practices, and resources for elected officials across the country.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Supporting the CFR State and Local Officials Initiative virtual and in-person programmatic offerings and events, which include a webinar series, briefings with CFR experts, at least one annual foreign policy forum, and CFR representation at external conferences and professional gatherings across the country.
    • Tasks include generating speaker and topic ideas, scheduling and implementation of events, drafting and managing correspondence, preparing meeting materials, and drafting reports for initiative activities.
  • Growing CFR’s Outreach community and raising its national profile through audience development by identifying and building relationships with new and diverse contacts in state and local government. 
  • Contributing to CFR communications and content dissemination efforts by maintaining webpages, conducting email campaigns—including newsletters and surveys—and placing advertisements.
  • Tracking data and conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis across program offerings for reporting purposes and as a basis for strategic decision-making.
  • Researching and identifying new strategic partnerships with local government associations and convening organizations, drafting correspondence to partner organizations, scheduling meetings, and circulating meeting notes and follow-up tasks. 
  • Drafting a monthly newsletter for state and local officials featuring a curated selection of CFR content.
  • Writing and scheduling social media posts and sustaining online engagement across various CFR channels and platforms. 
  • Researching new conferences and partnership opportunities that align with initiative goals.
  • Coordinating across departments and with external partner organizations to align schedules, organize events, and share information relevant to various crosscutting projects.
  • Providing general project support to the department, including attending and working at events held outside of business hours.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required. 

Qualifications

Education

  • BA in international relations or related field with high academic achievement and proven interest in current U.S. foreign policy and international affairs issues

Experience

  • Two or more years of experience working in outreach, partnerships, international relations, academia, government, or community engagement. Event or program management experience preferred.

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously; superior organizational and time management skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with multiple audiences; strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Ability to meet demanding deadlines with a positive attitude.
  • Professional conduct in all interactions with CFR members, invited dignitaries, and the general public. Judicious use of confidentiality and discretion when necessary.
  • Team player with capacity to take initiative, demonstrate flexibility, and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Dynamics 365 Experience with Quorum or other public affairs database is desirable.
  • Availability to work flexible hours and overtime, as necessary.
  • Capacity for domestic travel a few times each year.
  • Ability to assist with packing, shipping, and set up of publications and meeting materials for internal and external workshops, conferences, and events.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $61,000 $65,000, depending on experience.
