Position Summary

CFR’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program’s aim is to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

 

The Research Associate will work under the direction of the Stanton Nuclear Security Senior Fellow.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct original and secondary research about nuclear security, nuclear weapons, strategic force posture, industrial base capacity, and emerging technologies and military capabilities
  • Research specific areas for articles, book chapters, and other publications, as requested by the fellow
  • Coordinate events, including preparing invitations, making travel arrangements, corresponding with speakers and presiders, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support
  • Provide administrative support to the fellow, including handling correspondence, scheduling, and responding to requests for information
  • Track news and data sources
  • Assist in managing budgets, including preparing budgets and tracking monthly statements, monitoring grant information and drafting reports and requests, and preparing vouchers for reimbursement
  • Assist fellow with social media outreach, including publishing a blog, website, video, and/or using social media applications such as X, etc., as needed
  • Support other fellows and departments, upon request.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts in international relations, political science or a related field, with high academic credentials
  • One or more year(s) related administrative and/or internship experience preferred.

Related Skills & Other Requirements:

  • Excellent research skills and experience; experience with archival research a plus
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to effectively proofread and edit
  • Highly organized with the proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and the internet
  • Foreign language fluency a plus
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated interest in strategic stability and technology issues in foreign policy.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The full-time annual compensation range for this position is $55,000-$58,000, depending on experience.
  • In addition to competitive salaries, CFR provides employees with an outstanding benefits package.
