The David Rockefeller Studies Program at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is seeking to hire a fellow or senior fellow for technology, with the title depending on the successful candidate’s level of experience. The fellow will be expected to conduct original research on the challenges and opportunities that new technologies create for U.S. national security, economic policy, intelligence policy, and/or foreign policy, and to identify specific steps that policymakers should take in response. This is an extraordinary opportunity for someone looking to shape the national conversation on the intersection of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, or synthetic biology with America’s role in the world.

The Director, Council Trips is responsible for developing, planning, and delivering high-end, foreign policy-focused domestic and international travel experiences for CFR’s membership and staff. The Director oversees trip planning from start to finish and is responsible for developing trip concepts with appropriate in-house experts, determining the destinations, and proposing topics for meetings and briefings.   This position is part of CFR’s Executive Office and reports to the Chief of Staff to the President, working closely with various departments within CFR on specific projects. This position can be based in either CFR’s New York or Washington, DC office on a hybrid basis. The headquarters of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is housed in the historic landmark Harold Pratt Mansion and state-of-the-art Peterson Conference Center. This combined space is used for several hundred meetings a year. The Associate Director, Building Maintenance will report to the Deputy Director, Building Operations and Engineering. The position will be responsible for managing daily maintenance and repair of all building systems and equipment, as well as for managing the maintenance of the facilities overall appearance. This will include hands on maintenance and repair work on HVAC, boiler, heating, refrigeration, water, and energy systems, etc., managing vendor relations and preparing RFP’s and bid analysis and recommendations.

Chaired by distinguished public servants, Task Forces are convened to assess issues of current and critical importance to U.S. foreign policy and provide policymakers with concrete judgments and recommendations. Diverse in backgrounds and perspectives, Task Force members aim to reach a meaningful consensus on policy through private and nonpartisan deliberations. The Congress program engages members of Congress and their staffs on both sides of the aisle with a weekly roundtable policy discussion series, monthly briefings for Senate chiefs of staff, breakfast meetings for members of Congress, and other on-demand briefings. The program is responsible for distribution of CFR publications and other relevant materials to Capitol Hill.   The intern will develop professional skills related to international relations, congressional relations, and work on Capitol Hill. They will have the opportunity to learn about the operations of Congress and best practices by which an organization interacts with members of Congress and their staff. The intern will also gain experience in the management of extensive databases, event planning and execution, and professional research and writing as it relates to the policymaking community.   CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.   The Congress and U.S. Foreign Policy internship includes a mandatory onsite component. The Council on Foreign Relations seeks a creative and digital-savvy professional to join our video team of award-winning digital storytellers. Reporting to the Director of Video, the Assistant Video Producer will take ownership of the Council’s robust events post-production and publishing workflow and help grow the institution’s video footprint across various social media platforms. The successful candidate will curate and create event clips for social media distribution and collaborate closely across departments to help build a vibrant social media community focused on informing our audiences about pressing global issues. This position is based in CFR’s Washington, DC office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.
