The Business Development and Licensing Associate will support all magazine content licensing and partnership activities for Foreign Affairs. Through discussion and examination of the critical challenges facing the United States and international community, the program seeks to serve as both a direct resource for Congress and a convener of leading thinkers and practitioners both on and off the Hill in a variety of nonpartisan fora. The secondary focus on this program is facilitating limited engagement with the diplomatic community and executive branch.

The Council on Foreign Relations is truly a national organization, with more than one-third of its members based outside of the New York and Washington, DC, areas. The goal of the National Program is to energize foreign policy conversations by providing a forum for these National members across the country and around the world to discuss pressing issues and contribute to CFR’s research and publications. The National Program organizes in-person roundtables in ten cities, virtual sessions over Zoom, and two large annual events: the National Symposium in California and the National Conference in New York. The program associate will support the planning and execution of these National Program events.

CFR Outreach targets communities in a cross-section of American life, including educators and students; congregational leaders, religion scholars, and representatives of faith-based organizations; state and local officials; and local journalists in order to elevate conversations on U.S. foreign policy choices and increase civic engagement.   The Local Journalists (LJ) initiative equips journalists with the expertise and resources needed to draw connections between the local issues they cover and national and international trends and events. Through webinars and an annual workshop in New York, CFR connects local journalists with policy experts on regional and thematic issues of national and global interest and provides a forum for discussion of best practices for reporting. The initiative also makes available the vast array of CFR digital and print resources that offer the authoritative, independent analysis necessary for informing the public on international affairs and supporting an informed citizenry.   Please note, this is a programmatic position for working with local journalists and their networks.

The Council on Foreign Relations’ DC office is located just one block from the White House. It is home to a state-of-the-art conference center and is used for several hundred meetings a year. The space is also rented for numerous rental events each year. The Event Coordinator will provide support to the Event Operations team based out of the Washington, DC office.

CFR.org is the Council on Foreign Relations’s award-winning web site that is a leading source of content, analysis, and foreign policy options. It publishes a mix of resources, including interactives, Daily News Briefs, and Backgrounders. CFR.org collaborates closely with CFR’s think tank staff on its content, and features insights from CFR Fellows in a number of ways, including web briefs, Articles, and various multimedia. The Writer/Editor, Economics will work under the direction of the site’s Managing Editor and Deputy Editors and will work closely with the CFR.org team as well as the think tank staff.

The intern will learn about content optimization for Google as it relates to international politics and political science. The Studies Program’s aim is to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.   The Analyst will work in the Maurice R. Greenberg Center for Geoeconomic Studies (CGS), the part of the Studies department that focuses on the intersection of international economics and international relations. We expect that he or she will report to and primarily collaborate with the senior fellow and director of international economics. The balance of his or her time be spent working with other CGS fellows.   This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative, rigorous, quantitatively oriented mind to develop original ideas and to analyze important questions at the intersection economic policy and foreign policy. Recent holders of the position have gone on to high-responsibility positions in investment banking and central banking as well to top graduate school programs.
